Coffee

Coffee is the one thing
That has never let me down
It is a muted lover
Who knows just what to do
When to do it, how to do it, and why
And never asks questions
Nor waits for me to tell it what to do
It always warms my cold soul in the winter
And doesn't get mad if I shove my frigid feet
Underneath it during a movie
It rids the salty sweat from my brow in the summer
And doesn't sit on the couch
Refusing to take me out to dinner, while
Drinking another beverage of choice...
It makes me happy no matter what
And gives me an adrenaline rush to keep me awake
It doesn't beg, bitch, brag, belittle, or bellow
Coffee is the perfect muted, stable fellow

Lonely Christmas

I sit here, now alone, on the cold wooden floor
Looking up at the Christmas tree
Like I used to do as a child on these howling nights.
Its flashing lights and snow white angel
Stare back down at me.
Red, green, blue, and silver
My eyes water from not blinking.
They start to blur and remind me of a long time ago.
A glittery tear drops from my eye
As my memory goes back to when my sister was alive.
We would sleep under the huge, tilted tree
Laughing, telling stories, refusing to sleep.
Our stomachs were filled with butterflies in hopes
That we would see a glimpse of him in the shadows on the wall.
The pasty moon peeked through our window
Past the tree and down our giggling bodies,
The wailing wind blew whining noises under the front door
But together…
We were never afraid.
Then late into the night, our eyes would give up
And we would fall asleep, hand in hand waiting
Waiting, waiting for a thump, a clatter, a jingle.
Then the morning would come.
Oh how I miss her; Christmas Eve just isn’t the same.
So I lay here on the cold foor, alone, and blinking lights
Blanket my body as my hands remain open
Hoping, hoping, hoping to feel her hand in mine,
Again.

Lying

One cannot hang on spoken words
Without the sight of proof
For those who speak with guarded lips
Provide smeared lies and truth

To trust someone means letting go
Of insecurities
Believing what they say is true
Their slim realities

Their trained techniques in shadowed truths
Are easily believed
Persuasion at its cleverest
A lie so well conceived

The blurring of these two concepts
Cause complex conviction
I do admit the taste of lying
Is a sweet addiction

Twas the night...

Twas the night before Christmas
Mom had just waxed the floor
No sounds could be heard
Only dad’s constant snores

The fat cats were sleeping
On the couch made of leather
And the two black dogs were dreaming
On the floor together

The glistening from the colored lights
That hung on the mantle
Complimented the shimmering glow
Of each scented candle

Covering one of the frosty windows
Was the crooked, heavy tree
It shone so bright all night long
For everyone to see

Outside the white blanket
Kept building inch by inch
And the wind that whistled evilly
Sounded like the mean old grinch

The cinder, soot, and embers
That were dying with the fire
Still crackled, popped, and sizzled
But given time would retire

Then a sudden thump above me
Made its way to my small ear
And my eyes widened slowly
For I knew that HE was here

A rush of mixed emotions
Began twirling in my gut
I laid there still amongst my friends
Mr. Sugar, Mrs. Oatmeal, and Mr. Walnut

But it is I that am most commonly eaten
It is I Mr. Chocolate Chip
When taken with a glass of milk
I’m more delicious with every sip!

He eased himself down the chimney
In a way so quiet, so sure
He knew what he was here to do
He had done this all before

After watching the back of his red suit
For only a short while
His task of unloading presents was done
Then he looked at me with a half smile

I tried to hide, I tried to move
But no legs were given to me
Slowly he tiptoed into the kitchen
I shut my eyes so I wouldn’t see

I heard a squeak, then silence
Followed by a big kaboom!
This sound made me tremble
And shook the unmoved room

I steadily opened one of my eyes
And watched him quickly leave
I was so happy that this man in red
Would be far, far away from me

His black shiny boots and silver belt buckle
His cherry cheeks and white hair
Of all the scared cookies he encountered this night
I was the one whose life was spared

Now I know I’m just a single cookie
I know what I was made for
But I’ve never felt so relieved in my life
Thank God, mom waxed the floor

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

High School Memories

Time has passed so quickly by
It's finally our last year of school
Leaving behind our good old friends
And every single high school rule

Every memory made throughout these years
Now fade down each blank hall
Every laugh, every tear, every relationship
Every fight, or trip, or fall

We've lost friends and gained others
And gotten to know each and every teacher
We've cared about our looks and actions
Every conversation and every feature

We've passed some courses and failed others
And slept a lot through class
Sometimes we walked slow through the hallways
And other times we walked real fast

We hung out in the same spots every day
In the morning and of course at lunch
We stood in the hallways for no absolute reason
And got pushed around a bunch

We played sports, instruments, sang or acted
And found who we really are
What we can do with our individual talents
Where will it take us and how far

Some of us might miss this school
And some can't wait to get out of here
But no matter what happens in the future
Just remember, it was a heck of a senior year!

CLASS OF 2007!

Not Meant To Be

I promised myself I wouldn't fall
For you when we started to talk
I said, "Don't run yourself into love
When you know you're supposed to walk."
I didn't plan on getting attached
Because I've never done such a thing
I thought it would be safe to hang with you
It would only be a fling
But you had to make me laugh and smile
With that so called perfect charm
I was giggly and always effervescent
I didn't think it would cause me harm
So I kept hanging out with you all the time
And watched the days go by
I hadn't a clue that the relationship we had
Would end up making me cry
Every time things were going well
There came another complication
There was nothing we could do to avoid it
It was our neglected obligation
No way for us to be together
The present obstacles made it unfair
I turned to God and asked, "Why me?"
Every night in my tearful prayers
We couldn't even hang out like we used to
On the back of your tailgate
No laughing or making inside jokes between us
No staying out real late
The memories we shared are beginning to fade
And my wide grin is now a frown
I wish I could change what's happening
And turn everything around
It's weird because I've never felt this way
About any other guy
I can't believe I fell for you
Why did I even try?
I believe that everything happens for a reason
I guess we're not meant to be
I just hate having to go through this pain
I just want to be happy…

Dear Santa

Dear Santa.....

My dearest Mr. Santa Clause
I know this year's been mad
But I have my own wishes too
Beginning with your dad

I know he hardly visits us
But something must be said
The man skips 'round with nothing on
And he hates the color red!

And don't even bring up your mother, dear
She drives the elves insane
She's now convinced that everything
Can be cured with a candycane

But then there's talk of living space
The reindeer have gone wack
They think they deserve their very own rooms...
We'll chat when you get back

You promised you'd fix the washer too
Before 'twas Christmas Eve
I guess wishes only come true to those
Who are not married, can you believe

But don't let me bring your night down, love
You know I hate to nag
You'll see this note when all is through
At the bottom of your bag

Just don't forget about the rest of us
Who you'll deal with all your life
I love you darling, see you soon
Sincerely, your loving wife :)
